Latenite Hotels!

For those of you wondering who the heck the Latenite Hotels are, we are here to tell you!  They are a new addition to Boob Rock but they have a great sound and we are happy to have them!

From the early days of house parties, shotgunning beers and playing for friends, The Latenite Hotels have always embraced the seedier side of things as well as the beautiful. It is this paradigm that has shaped the band's look and sound from the very beginning. The balance of light and dark are constant themes within their music and it is this dimensional diversity that has been drawing people in from the start. Their music contains a tension between words and sounds that allows listeners to form their own conclusions about the meanings of the songs. With only a handful of gigs under their belt the band has already got people noticing their unique brand of rock 'n roll soul which has resulted in a number of bookings for 2010. The band are currently recording their first E.P. and are slated to play numerous shows in the coming months... Stay tuned for more fascinating stories about The Latenite Hotels... .. .. ..

Sounds Like:

A cold night dressed in a brand new suit with dinner reservations at the nicest restaurant in the city, two tickets to the opera and you're waiting outside of a sleazy bar for your stripper ex-girlfriend.

Tim Reynolds!

The lovely and funny Tim Reynolds MC'd last year's Boob Rock.  If you were too busy to check it out last year don't worry, he'll be there this year!

Calgary writer/comic/poet, Tim Reynolds, has been everything from a school teacher to a paparazzo to a game show contestant and brings his odd perspective on life to the stage every chance he gets. He once got kicked out of a brothel and has been known to tear up and get emotional when people start sharing their own whorehouse-in-the-desert stories and he can't contribute.

He thinks Depends were invented for lazy drunks and never misses a chance to blame a 10-pound fart on his 5-pound dog.

Tamara Beatty

Tamara Beatty

Born in Saskatchewan and raised in Alberta, singer/songwriter Tamara Beatty is a prairie girl with a gypsy heart. Her music is influenced by the simple beauty of nature, an interest in human nature and her adventures around the globe.

Tamara followed her inner gypsy around the world teaching voice lessons and exploring music, culture, and art.  As she traveled, she kept books of her own writing- short stories, journal entries, and a collection of poetry.

When Tamara decided to combine her love for writing and singing she brushed off her old writing journals and came up with a few songs to take to Los Angeles to record.  Five songs became eight, and eight became eleven.  These eleven songs collectively evolved into Tamara Beatty's debut album of original music, "February Bloom", a storybook of her life since she first started songwriting.

“I am a Seed
Everything I need
To be
To bud
To Bloom.”

Always very visually inspired seeing music as colors, textures, shapes and movement, Tamara wanted to express this unrevealed part of herself.  She transformed "February Bloom" into a visual arts show that debuted at the University of Calgary Theatre in January 2011. The show, “Shades of Bloom” was produced and directed by Tamara and included performances of the eleven original works from her CD, as well as choreographed dance accompaniment and photographs taken by Tamara on her travels around the world.

The concept of the show is that flowers, whether they are budding, blooming, or wilting are always perfect in every stage of bloom.   Tamara invites the audience to see themselves through the eyes of a flower, embracing their beauty as they are right now.

The show explores themes of nature, beauty, honesty, and simplicity- all reflective of Tamara’s prairie roots and gypsy nature.   At the beginning she poses the audience the question, “What Shade of Bloom Are You?” For now, Tamara Beatty is in “February Bloom”.

Key Tracks:
3. Such Love (3:19)
4. Just Be (4:18)
5. Don’t Wanna Go Home (3:15)

David Andrew Wiebe

The first time David Andrew Wiebe entered the world of performance as a solo artist was in the summer of 2003. He simply presented a handful of guitar instrumental pieces, with no foreknowledge of where that would lead.

In 2005, he would go on to perform more frequently as a solo artist, and in addition to his guitar playing, he also began developing as a singer. This marked a drastic transition in his career.

On September 8, 2006 Wiebe would go on to release his first solo album, Shipwrecked... My Sentiments. This album showcased his frantic fret-work and Costello-esque vocal tones. The album was markedly different from previous efforts in which the primary focus was the Hard Rock genre. Shipwrecked... featured more of a laid back vibe, treating audiences to his versatility and creative imagination.

Wiebe's songwriting is eloquent, rich, and sometimes quirky. Many of his songs address the human condition of brokenness and spirituality. Relationships are at the heart of life, and it is a favorite subject of Wiebe's, who has survived a major earthquake, the death of his father and his cousin Mitch.

Wiebe is also fluent in Japanese, having spent 8 and a half of his formative years there. Audiences have been treated to songs in both English and Japanese, and while English-speaking audiences may not understand what is being sung, they still appreciate the art and craft of singing in a language other than their own.

Wiebe, having experienced what it means to "fall in love" in 2008, is currently working on a second solo album in which he laments the loss of his love but also expresses his hope for the future.

We also have the lovely Andy Letch of SpecOps Photo.

Andy Letch is a Calgary based photographer with 30 years of experience.  He has a fantastic eye for location shots.  He's done body painting, maternity shots, boudoir, zombies, event photography and epic group shoots.  His laid back attitude and sense of humor make him very easy to work with and his sense of lighting is tasteful.  Check out his work on: http://www.modelmayhem.com/754111 and: http://www.modelrepublic.net/person/Specopsphoto

Last but not least we have RenG Photography, Dark Passion Meets Light!

Renée Dawn Gschaid - Having been working in studios since she was only 18 years old in Calgary.  Renée has learned to explore her photography by using not only models, working with other artists but using personal surroundings and nature to create something that others may not see as beautiful.  She is also an active photographer at events not only in Calgary but Southern Alberta.  She can frequently be seen at conventions such as Otafest which is a popular Anime Otaku convention at the U of C each May.  She's not only a perfectionist but also experimental in her process which produces exciting results.

She has a love for the darker, Gothic things in existence but doesn't allow that to stand in her way of seeing the lighter side of life in her photography.  A desire to explore different genres, new locations and collaborating with model, make-up artists, hair-stylist as well as her clients to execute not only her vision but also the people around her.  Only to find and caputre beauty in the world she wants to explore.  Check out her work on: http://reng-photography.webs.com or: http://www.modelmayhem.com/1579672 You'll like what you see!
